Transforming a Vacation iPhone Photo into a Children’s Portrait
This sweet Children’s Portrait is the sweetest story that all starts with Lindsay and Alex’s wedding day! They were married in October of 2017 at Lowndes Grove – and oh my heavens, it was the most perfect Charleston wedding! (You can see their finished painting here and this amazing video of Ben painting live on their wedding day, here!) Fast forward a few years, and now their love story has expanded with the arrival of sweet Baby Everett. From wedding to family, Ben was honored when Alex reached out to commission another painting as a surprise for Lindsay!
This children’s portrait painting of Everett is inspired by casual iPhone photos taken during a recent beach vacation—of Everett’s free spirit in his happy place, running along the beach, seashell in hand! Let’s be real: traveling with a 3 year old is never easy! But it’s moments and memories like these that make the whole trip worth it! As a Dad to 3 girls himself, Ben felt honored to create this children’s portrait for Lindsay and Alex.
Turning Imperfect Photos into Picture Perfect Paintings
Here’s the thing about iPhone photos: we love them for their spontaneity, but they rarely belong or land in a frame, let alone on the wall. Maybe there are extra people in the background, the angle is a little off, or the lighting just didn’t do justice, or someone’s eyes are closed. And yet, these photos are priceless because they capture life exactly as it happens. This is where Ben steps in as a painter! With a brush, those little imperfections—like the beachgoers in the background—fade away. And what remains is the heart of the moment. That’s the beauty of a painting! It’s polished enough for your walls but still authentic to the memory.
Looking back on the day and moment, Lindsay and Alex loved how excited Everett was about the seashell. He was on Cloud 9 running along the beach with his floppy little sun hat. Lindsay said Everett could run all day along the beach and never stop! It’s his happy place!
Ben was able to tweak a few small details from the original photos to make the painting perfect. (Although I will say, the photos were already amazing from the start! Yes: the water was truly that blue green tropical shade!)
From Your iPhone to Your Home: Painting Life’s Sweet Memories
For Lindsay and Alex, this children’s portrait is another chapter in their sweet love story. A connection for us that began on their wedding day and now continues as their family grows. From the day they exchanged vows at Lowndes Grove to this sun-kissed beach vacation, Ben has captured life’s sweetest moments through art. We hope this painting brings years and years of joy to their growing family!
Some memories are just too sweet to remain on your camera roll! If you have a few favorite photos of your kids or even from a recent family photography session, Ben would love to see them and talk about creating a painting! The next step is to send us an email here! Ben will be opening up a limited number of spots in 2025 for Children’s Portraits!
