Stepping into the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Savannah is nothing short of a spiritual experience. Ben and I have seen many gorgeous sanctuaries across the US and Europe, and this cathedral is one of the most beautiful we’ve seen. Needless to say, we were blessed to have the opportunity to capture Caroline and Charlie’s wedding ceremony that took place in this breathtaking cathedral. There were a few comedic moments setting up as tourists were enamored with watching Ben – we didn’t expect the cathedral to be such a destination! Given a small window for setup and sketching, it was unbelievable to watch Ben sketch out the composition as quickly and precisely as he did. There’s a big difference between stepping up to tackle a garden landscape painting and taking on such complex and lavish architecture! But Ben absolutely nailed it! As guests arrived, they were ushered by the painting and were able to see it created right then, during the ceremony. Carolina and Charlie had the most beautiful, heartfelt ceremony in which the beauty of their loved perfectly matched the beauty of the cathedral. There’s almost a sacredness that’s imparted into a live painting – a sacredness that I image will mean the world to Caroline and Charlie 10, 20, 30 years from now as they reflect on the beauty of their wedding day! To make the day even more special to us, we had the opportunity to work alongside sweet friends that are also wedding pros. Scott and Melissa of Hopkins Studio were commissioned to photograph their wedding day … and we will be the first to say that their work is in and of itself, rightfully art! Scott and Melissa have a way of capturing the emotion of the day. They get to the heart of what it’s really all about! We also had the joy of working alongside the Posh, Petals, and Pearl’s team! From logistics to design, the day was flawless from start to finish! What an absolute honor to be part of Caroline and Charlie’s iconic Savannah wedding.
